Music in Smithfield
The next Third on Third concert is scheduled from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at the corner of South Third and Johnston streets in downtown Smithfield. The Justin Kyle Band will perform. The summer concert series wraps up Oct. 21 with The Rhythm Express.
‘Jungle Book’ in the park
A free screening of “The Jungle Book” is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 24, in Smith-Collins Park on East Lee Street in Smithfield. Food and face painting will be available starting at 7 p.m. The movie will follow. Bring a blanket or lawn chair.
Art class for kids
Doodlebugs, an art class for toddlers, meets from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Fridays at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 E. Booker Dairy Road, Smithfield. For Smithfield residents, the cost is $5 for a single class or $19 for four classes. For nonresidents, the costs are $8 and $30. Register by the Wednesday before the Friday class. A pottery class will begin Sept. 6 at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 E. Booker Dairy Road, Smithfield. The class will meet from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays for six weeks. Book club to meet at Smithfield restaurant
The book club at the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield is taking its show on the road. At noon Tuesday, Sept. 20, the club will meet at the Bob Evans restaurant, 907 Venture Drive, Smithfield. The club invites book lovers to talk about their favorite books, authors and recent reads. Chorale seeking voices
The Johnston County Chorale invites high school students and adults in to sing in its Christmas show. No audition is required; registration is from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 12 and Sept. 19 at First Baptist Church, 202 S. Fourth St., Smithfield. The cost to join is $40 for adults and $30 for students. Teen Handbuilding Pottery, for ages 13-18: first session, 4:30-6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8. The fee is $70 for Clayton residents and $85 for nonresidents.
Tweens Pottery, for ages 9-13: first session, 4:30-5:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12. The fee is $65 for Clayton residents and $80 for nonresidents.
Kids ’N’ Clay, for ages 6-8: first session, 4:30-5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13. The fee is $45 for Clayton residents and $60 for nonresidents.
After-School Art, for ages 5-7: first session, 4:30-6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6. The fee is $35 for Clayton residents and $50 for nonresidents.
