Briarcliff Elementary School is a Blue Ribbon School
Briarcliff Elementary School of Cary is a 2014 National Blue Ribbon School. This is the top federal education department honor for elementary through high schools.
A yard sale will be held to raise money for Green Hope High School’s Voices of Hope choir from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 11, in the school’s commons area at 2500 Carpenter Upchurch Road, Cary. The yard sale will help Voices of Hope students raise money for a trip to New York to sing at Carnegie Hall. The sale includes household goods, electronics, toys, books, clothes and more.
Fuquay-Varina Middle School’s Fall Ball will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at 109 N. Ennis St., Fuquay-Varina. There will be crafters and vendors, food trucks, a raffle, a bake sale and activities for kids.
Young Composers Competition
The Greensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra’s Young Composers Competition will accept submissions through Wednesday, Oct. 15. The competition will be open to North Carolina high school students who are 18 or younger. The competition will target professionally focused composers with professional composition teachers or mentors, but all submissions will be considered. The winning composition will be performed by the Greensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra and will be included in a CD. For details, go to www.gsyo.org.
‘The Yellow Boat’
The Cary High School Performing Arts Department will present “The Yellow Boat” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, through Saturday, Oct. 18, in the school auditorium, 638 Walnut St., Cary. Thales Academy tours
Thales Academy of Apex will host a tour and open house for prospective students and families. Cary Choral Classic
Choral ensembles from Cary High School, Panther Creek High School and Green Hope High School will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, in the Cary High School auditorium, 638 Walnut St., Cary. Each school’s ensemble will perform alone, and the three groups will perform three pieces together. Admission costs $5 for adults and $2 for students, up to $15 per family.
Photo essay competition
The Cary Photographic Artists will sponsor a photo essay competition for Wake County students in ninth through 12th grade. Cash prizes range from $50 to $150, and the competition will end with an exhibit. For details, go to bit.ly/1kTh4U4.
