Student exchange program
World Heritage Student Exchange Program is looking for host families for high school boys and girls from Scandinavia, France, Germany, Italy, Thailand, China, South Korea and former Soviet Republics. Couples, single parents and families with or without children can host a teenager for the 2014-15 school year. Athens Drive receives grant
Jason Hunning, a teacher at Athens Drive High School in Raleigh, earned a $1,000 grant from N.C. Beautiful to make a native plant garden for the school.
Cardinal Charter Academy information sessions
Cardinal Charter Academy, a new charter school for kindergarten through sixth grade, will open in the fall at 1020 St. Charles Place, Cary. Information sessions for parents and community members will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, and Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Cary Senior Center, 120 Maury Odell Place, Cary. Enrollment is open. Auction and art walk
The Lufkin Road Middle School PTA’s Third Annual Silent Auction and Art Walk will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, in the school lobby, 1002 Lufkin Road, Apex. Preschoolers’ art auction
Art by preschoolers at The Learning Eperience of Apex and Holly Springs will be sold in the Second Annual Nationwide BeCause Our Hearts Beat Art Auction from 4-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at 560 Evening Star Drive, Apex, and 801 Holly Springs Road, Holly Springs. Art sales will raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Dr. Aureen Wagner’s workshop, “Helping Children Cope with Anxiety,” was rescheduled for 7-9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at Davis Drive Middle School, 2101 Davis Drive, Cary. Holly Springs High School volunteer meeting
Holly Springs High School parents will meet to plan the Baccalaureate Service for the class for 2014 at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Chick-fil-A, 801 Village Walk Drive, Holly Springs. STEM Family Night
Lincoln Heights Elementary School’s STEM Family Night will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, at 307 Bridge St., Fuquay-Varina. There will be science, technology, engineering and math activities by teachers, N.C. State University engineering students and Museum of Natural Sciences junior curators. Green Hope High School students will perform the show “Grease” at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 6, and Friday, March 7, and at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at 2500 Carpenter Upchurch Road, Cary.
Wake Electric scholarships
Wake Electric will accept applications from high school juniors in Durham, Franklin, Granville, Johnston, Nash, Vance and Wake counties for two $1,000 scholarships until Friday, March 14, at www.wemc.com/youthtours.aspx. Winners will receive the scholarship and join the 2014 Rural Electric Youth Tour trip to Washington, D.C., from June 14-20. Winners will also become eligible for more scholarships worth $2,000 to $2,500.
IMProv at Cary High School
Students will perform in competitive IMProv shows at 7 p.m. one Friday a month through May in the drama studio at Cary High School, 638 Walnut St. Shows will be March 21, April 11 and May 16. Admission is $2.
