Apex resident performs at Visible Music College
Kyle Holder of Apex will perform his senior recital after three years of study at Visible Music College on April 5 in Memphis, Tenn. The juried recital, prepared over a semester, is the final requirement for graduation.
Cary High School hosts ROTC drill meet
Cary High School’s Navy Junior ROTC hosted the 2014 Cary Classic Drill Meet on March 1. The Drill Meet’s athletic events and military drills included 15 local high school ROTC units.
Green Hope PTSA scholarships

Weatherstone Elementary School’s PTA will host its second annual STEM Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at 1000 Olde Weatherstone Way, Cary. Weatherstone was designated last year as a STEM school that focuses on science, technology, engineering and math. The free expo for parents and students will feature 15 volunteer organizations, Marbles Museum, N.C. State Robotics, Cycling Starts Here and Mathnasium. There will be food trucks and kids’ activities, including a fossil dig.
‘Meet the Strings’
The Cary High School Orchestra will host “Meet the Strings” with string orchestra music by students at West Cary Middle School, Reedy Creek Middle School, Cary Elementary School and Cary High School at 5:15 p.m. Monday, March 24, at the Cary High School auditorium, 638 Walnut St. Admission is free.
Fuquay-Varina Elementary School will host a book drive for the WAKE Up and Read program from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Saturday, March 29, in the school’s front lobby, 6600 Johnson Pond Road.
Green Hope High School will collect books through Saturday, March 29, in the bin in the school’s lobby, 2500 Carpenter Upchurch Road, Cary.

Moe’s Southwest Grill and the Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education will accept applications for two $1,000 grants for elementary schools through Sunday, April 13. The Green Hope High School football team and Mulch Masters are working together in a fundraiser for the football team.
