Local students earn East Carolina University scholarships

East Carolina University has given local students scholarships. They are:

•  Kevin Nguyen of Cary, the son of Ta and Linh Nguyen, a student at Green Hope High School.
•  Tulsi Patel of Cary, the daughter of Mike and Amita Patel, a student at Enloe High School.
•  Lindsey Locklear of Fuquay-Varina, the daughter of Melanie and Duane Locklear, a student at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics.
•  Kelly Forbis of Holly Springs, the daughter of Susie and Andy Forbis, a student at Holly Springs High School.

Cary student earns award

Mathama Bility of Cary earned A Better Chance’s Judith Berry Griffin Award of $1,500. Mathama, a student at Salem Academy in Winston-Salem, will travel to New York City for the awards ceremony on Friday, June 20.

Cary student earns Fulbright assistantship

Lauren Kepke of Cary is one of six Elon University students to earn a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship. Kepke, who graduated from Elon in May, will teach English in Guatemala through the assistantship. She is the daughter of Mark and Ann Kepke of Cary.

Cary student graduates with honors from Duke

Allen Hawkes of Cary graduated cum laude from Duke University with a bachelor’s degree in engineering and Graduation with Distinction in mechanical engineering and material sciences.

Holly Springs student earns scholarship

Sara Riley of Holly Springs earned the Everett and Trudy Suddreth Scholarship of Excellence for $2,500 from the Carolinas Food Industry Council. Riley is a student at N.C. State University.

Saint Francis United Methodist Church scholarships

The Scholarship Committee of Saint Francis United Methodist Church of Cary gave scholarships to 16 students. They are Sarah Beach, Nicole Brewer, Madeline Chambers, Drew Conway, Evan Fisher, Katie Follette, Nicolas Gallo, Grace Gibbons, Samantha Hutchings, Jordan Keeney, Tobi Nguyen, Brooke Ready, Sami Schneider, Katherine Swanson, Jonathan Woodlief and Kali Woodlief.
