A 16-year-old boy from Fuquay-Varina drowned off the Outer Banks over the weekend, according to Currituck County Sheriff Susan Johnson.
Thomas Harman was swimming north of Corolla during an outing with his family on Saturday when he was caught in a rip tide, according to Johnson.
Bystanders were able to rescue two swimmers from the current, but they couldn’t reach Harman in time. Two visitors to the area found Harman’s body on the beach near Seagull Lane about 10:15 a.m., Johnson wrote in an email.
