Two Cary students have received the prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship at UNC-Chapel Hill.
The scholarship includes all expenses for four years of undergraduate study, summer enrichment programs and other leadership experiences.
The two Cary students are the only Wake County winners of the scholarship.
Meghana Ganapathiraju is a student at Green Hope High and is the daughter of Saraswati Kumar and Kowsayla Devi Ganapathiraju. She started and coaches a Math Olympiad team, performs Indian classical dance and has raised money for social causes, according to a new release. She plans to study biological and computational sciences and is considering a career in medicine.
Pooja Joshi is a student at Raleigh Charter School and is the daughter of Dhanesh and Shivangi Joshi of Cary. She is captain of the Science Olympiad team and performs with a traveling Indian dance team. She plans to study biology, political science and government.
Fifty-nine scholars were chosen, including 34 from North Carolina. They are selected based on leadership, academic achievement, moral force of character and physical vigor.
