Two members of a family from Cary were killed in a crash in Ohio on Sunday while they were on their way to a funeral in Chicago.
Khurshid Chaudhry, 65, and her 5-year-old granddaughter, Azan Chaudhry, were killed in a wreck that happened around 4 a.m. on Interstate 75 in Dayton, according to the Dayton Daily News.
The Chaudhry family was on its way to a funeral in Chicago when their Honda Odyssey traveled off I-75 and struck a group of trees, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Azan Chaudhry was not restrained while sitting in the back seat, the Highway Patrol told The Daily News.
The driver, 27-year-old Rubena Elahi, was hospitalized with serious injuries, according to reports. She is Azan’s mother. Muhammad Chaudhry, Azan’s father and Elahi’s husband, was hospitalized with serious injuries.
The couple’s other daughter, 2-year-old Izna Chaudhry, was reportedly taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The funerals are scheduled Monday evening in Ramseur, according to a Facebook post from a family member.
