Collin Laing of Cary, NC and Boyscout Troop 213 of the
Occonechee Council, has been awarded the Rank of Eagle Scout,
the highest rank achievable in the Boy Scouts of America. Collin is
a Junior at Green Hope High School, where he is a National Honor
Never miss a local story.
Society Student, a Spanish Honor Society Student, Captain of the
Varsity Wrestling Team, and a Varsity Football player. Collin was
the Crew Leader for his Troop’s trip to the 70 mile, 2 week hike
through the high altitude Philmont, NM high adventure reservation.
He was awarded the Ad Altare Dei religious award, and is a
former Senior Patrol Leader for the Troop. He is also a member
of the Town of Cary’s Teen Council where he has over 100 hours
of service to the Town.
Collin’s Eagle project consisted of consulting with the Town of
Cary to identify a need for the Parks and Recreation Department.
It was identified that the Town of Cary wanted a new design for
unique benches to be placed at the Middle Creek Frisbee Golf
Park. Collin worked with the town to design and then build and
install 2 distinct designs of benches to include a stadium style
bench that would also become the template for future builds as
well. He designed, constructed and installed a total of 4 benches
for the park.
Collin is the son of Jim and Karen Laing of Cary, NC.
