Apex Girl Scout earns Silver Award; Local students serve as pages; Cary resident earns Heart of Cary award.

Apex Girl Scout earns Silver Award

Taylor Tyson of Apex, a member of Girl Scout Troop 278, earned the Silver Award, the second-highest achievement in Girl Scouting. She worked with students at Barwell Road Elementary School in Raleigh to improve reading skills. She used computer programs and an assessment tool. She scheduled one-on-one instructional time with students from various track schedules and plans to continue her involvement by helping organize a fundraiser for books. Taylor is a student at Apex High School and the daughter of Alvin and Tara Tyson.

Local students serve as pages

Abigail Miskew, Kristen Nordin and Taylor Nordin served as pages for the N.C. House of Representatives. Abigail, the daughter of Douglas and Tracy Miskew of Morrisville, was sponsored by Rep. Ruth Samuelson. Kristen and Taylor, the daughters of Ken and Catherine Nordin of Cary, were sponsored by Rep. Paul Stam.

Cary resident earns Heart of Cary award

The Heart of Cary Association recognized Carroll Ogle with an award on June 5. Ogle, a founding member of the group, was honored for leadership and volunteer work. The award also included a donation to the Carroll & Sheila Ogle Family Fund for historic preservation and arts in Cary.
