Balloon fest volunteers
Volunteers can register to participate in the WRAL Freedom Balloon Fest Friday, May 27, to Monday, May 30, at Fleming Loop Park, 301 Fleming Loop Road, Fuquay Varina.

The dedication of the memorial for victims of crashes involving American Eagle Flights 3378 and 3379 is 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at Carpenter Park, 1580 Morrisville Carpenter Road. A reception will follow at Good Hope Baptist Church, 6628 Good Hope Church Road, Cary. The memorial is about one mile from where Flight 3379 crashed on Dec. 13, 1994. Dinner on Depot Street
The dining and dancing fundraiser is 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, May 14, on Depot Street in the historic shopping district of Fuquay-Varina. Tickets are $75 per person. Proceeds from the event go to Fuquay-Varina Downtown, the nonprofit that administers the N.C. Main Street Program.
Tigers on Parade
Bengal tigers will prowl the streets of downtown Fuquay-Varina Saturday, May 14, to Saturday, Nov. 5. Sponsors and artists will unveil their decorated tiger sculptures at the Dinner on Depot event on May 14. The tigers will be stationed at various downtown locations. The Fuquay-Varina Downtown Association encourages spreading “Tiger love” on social media - use #fvdowntown and #fvroar. Fiesta for Education

Boating safety classes
The Cary Flotilla of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer a boating safety class for ages 12 and older from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 21. The cost is $35. An open house honoring Cheri Spitz will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, May 22, in the Family Life Center of Resurrection Lutheran Church, 100 Lochmere Drive W., Cary. Spitz has been the director of the church’s preschool for 30 years and plans to retire July 1.
