James Clifton (Ted) White, 93, of Cary, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2013. He was married to Sarah Estelle Speake White for over 67 years.
Ted was raised in the Hatton Community of Lawrence County, Alabama. He was the son of James Fredrick White and Meredith Irene Hagood and was raised on a cotton farm with 6 sisters and one brother. He honorably served as a Navy aviation mechanic on an isolated island in the South Pacific for 4 years during World War II. After being discharged from the service and a long distance airmail courtship, Ted and Estelle were married in Alabama on August 19th, 1945. Several years after they were married, Ted joined Chemstrand (now Monsanto) in Decatur, Alabama and was transferred to the Research Triangle Park in 1960 where he later retired after 26 years of dedicated service.
Ted and Estelle raised a loving family and is survived by his daughter Vicky (Marvin) Thompson of Cary, NC, sons Jim (Elizabeth) White of Cary, NC and Bill (Ann) White of Liberty, NC. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren; Tonia (Tim) Hines of Wilmington, NC, David (Jennifer) Venable of Raleigh, NC, Eli and William White of Cary, NC. Also surviving are 4 great grandchildren Adeline & Ashton Hines and Estelle & Will Venable. In addition, extended family members include Becky (Duane) Beckner; Wendy, Mathew Rhodes, Heather (Jason) & Kyndall Faircloth and Collin & Hannah Joyce.
Ted was a long time member of the First Baptist of Cary. He loved to work with his hands in his workshop and the yard. He was also very industrious (especially with duct tape!) Ted lived for the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was from the depression era generation and he refused to pay for something if he could do it himself. Everyone knew if it was” broke” give it to Ted – he’d fix it. The family wishes to thank everyone who has expressed their love for Ted over the years.
Never miss a local story.
