Arthur Lee Humphrey, 91, loving husband and father, of New Bern, NC, previously of Baltimore, MD; Cary and Warsaw, NC. passed away peacefully on November 13th. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Hamilton Humphrey, and four children, David Humphrey, Richardson TX; Allee Humphrey, New Bern; Nancy Humphrey McAndrew, Elgin TX; and Bill Humphrey, Boulder CO.

Art was raised in Warsaw and started his engineering and technology career early when discovering the delights of photography, radio, electrical, and mechanical devices. His engineering studies at NC State University were interrupted by two years of US Navy service due to WWII where he worked with communications and radar.

Art began his professional career in Raleigh and as chief engineer was instrumental in putting its first TV station on the air as well as converting it to Color. After a stint with Martin Aircraft in Baltimore, Art settled in Cary and enjoyed many years starting and running new companies designing and building electronic testing equipment; electronic displays and signs. Art’s companies and his thinking were always at the forefront of technology and innovation.

Art passed his love of learning and entrepreneurial spirit to his children who all elected professional careers in engineering or accounting.

Art’s special way of connecting with everyone he spoke to, from casual acquaintances to long time friends and family, always magically produced an instant smile from them. A skill admired and envied by all who knew him, most especially his family. He will be greatly missed.

Memorial Service will be held 11:00 Nov. 20th, Broad Street Christian Church, New Bern.
