Yvonne Lemmler Wightman has gone to be with Jesus, and to join with many family and friends, and George, her wonderful husband of 71 years!
Yvonne was born to Bert and Mabel Watt Lemmler on March 30, 1916 in Buffalo, New York. She spent her childhood in Angola, NY, graduating from Angola High in 1933. She then took a year's course in the School of Domestic Science, Boston, MA before marrying George Daniel Wightman of Sandrock Road, Eden, NY on June 7, 1934 in Colrain, near Boston, MA.
Yvonne dedicated her life to being a faithful and supportive wife, a caring mother of four children, and a creative hostess and community worker in the several communities in which George pursued a successful career in secondary school administration.
Among Yvonne's many interests was music, particularly piano and organ, which she pursued at home as well as serving several churches. She was a Girl Scout leader and an elder in the Presbyterian Church. Of particular satisfaction for her, was reading for a blind minister at the Presbyterian Church in Ripley, NY where they made their home at 42 East Main. In retirement years, Yvonne and George spent the warmer months at Chautauqua, NY enjoying the summer programs, while winters were enjoyed in California with brother Dale, Ft. Myers, FL and NC.
Yvonne enjoyed several years of employment at the Cattaraugus County Home in Machias, NY and at Chautauqua Institution where she served in the financial office and the special studies program. In addition to music, Yvonne's hobbies included sewing, knitting, quilting, toll-painting, reading, games including being an excellent Bridge partner.
Those who knew Yvonne will remember her particularly for her hospitality, as she always warmly welcomed all friends, and new acquaintances into her home, year after year.
Thank you Mother, for your unceasing love, your inspiring example and a wonderful and full life - from your 4 children, 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Yvonne was predeceased by husband George and brother Dale Lemmler. She is survived by Larry (Linda) of Ft. Myers, FL; Dan (Kyoko) of Colton, OR; Lynn (Beverly) of Chautauqua, NY; Janet (Gary) of Cary, NC.
