Regena O’Neal Warren, 63, of Cary, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014. Gena showed us how to face life’s struggles with courage and determination. She fought a 13-year battle with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and was in remission. She began her final battle last August as she bravely fought complications from a surgical procedure to remove mesh. Gena chose to donate her body for medical research in the study of abdominal fistula repair.
Gena was a dedicated nurse and legal nurse consultant in both North Carolina and Florida, and she also worked for hospice. Gena graduated from nursing school in Mississippi. She also was devoted to her two rescue dogs, Buddy and Cricket. Her passion for helping others and selflessness was an inspiration to all those who knew her. Gena will always be remembered for her laughter and her way of finding joy over the little things in life.
Gena is survived by her husband, Raymond C. Warren; brother and sister-in-law Bart and Becky O’Neal; sister and brother-in-law Wanda Jo and Barry Johnson; stepdaughters Tammie Warren and Christie Manley; nieces and nephews Cullen and Gray O’Neal, Jacob Steagald, and Bethany and Rob Welborn; and great nieces Camryn and Ava O’Neal.
In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
