Thomas C. Alston, Jr, known to his family and many friends as "Cut", died Sunday.
Tom was born to Thomas Cheatham and Mitty Y. Alston in Louisburg, N.C. on May 22, 1927. He was a veteran of the U.S Army and attended college on the G.I. Bill after the war. He attended Louisburg College and was a graduate of East Carolina.Teachers College.
He held an M.Ed.from UNC Chapel Hill. He was a teacher and principal in Chatham County and a principal in Wake County.He joined the N.C. State Board of Education in 1968 where he was a supervisor of teacher allotment until his retirement in 1988.
"Cut" was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Christine S. Alston, and two sisters; Viola A. Mangum and Jennie A. Watson.
He is survived by twelve nieces and nephews and their children, all of whom he loved dearly.
He was active in his church until his failing health curtailed his activities. He was also a long time volunteer at the Dorcas Ministries of Cary.
A memorial service will be held at Apex United Methodist Church on Thursday Jan 31 at 2:00 pm.
The family will receive friends after the service. Interment will follow at a later date in Siler City, NC.
