Expanded bus service a win for everybody
As the Cary Town Council considers and votes on the proposed budget, I hope town leaders keep as priorities protection of the environment and protection of the quality of life Cary has provided for many years.
These are challenging times financially for all levels of government, and I am aware of the difficulty in expanding existing services or creating new ones. However, I strongly support the town manager’s proposal to expand service for C-Tran’s fixed-route and door-to-door bus service schedule by extending the evening hours from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
I am a frequent C-Tran user, and this would benefit me personally. But as the town manager has pointed out, increased use of transit in our city and region benefits taxpayers as well by helping to offer an alternative to private vehicles that create air pollution. We need to protect our environment, and Cary can contribute to cleaner air by promoting the use of mass transit.
Never miss a local story.
I also want to support Cary’s stated legislative goal of protecting our water supply. We need to work with local legislators to take whatever action is necessary to protect Jordan Lake.
The stated goal of supporting, maintaining and improving the water quality of Jordan Lake should be at the top of any list of concerns for the Town Council, its staff and the community.
I thank Cary for making transportation available, so that ordinary citizens like me could attend the budget meeting and participate in the budget process.
