Eliminating protest petitions is a terrible idea. There are many positives that come from being able to create a petition. It gets residents involved in the process of development and allows them to have a say in how they hope to see their town grow.
It encourages developers to meet with residents to create the best possible product in order to gain support. It forces neighbors to thoughtfully specify their concerns about a development plan.
A protest petition does not stop development. It simply gives residents a stronger voice in the conversation.
Considering Apex is going to double in size in the next few years, I’m appalled that N.C. Rep. Skip Stam would try to silence the taxpayers of his town. It is vitally important that residents are able to maintain as much involvement and voice in the process of development as possible.
Wake County is growing at a tremendous pace. Please allow those of us who live here to have a say in shaping how that growth will happen.
