Regarding the May 13 news article “Wake ponders longer school days”: The Wake County schools must be top notch if five minutes a day will make a difference for instruction purposes. How did such a silly conversation start?
I see a lot of concern over the parents’ vacation time and the tourist business yet I fail to see how two days during the summer out of maybe 80 days or so for vacation is an issue. This is exactly the kind of thinking that causes issues.
Would the teachers’ pay be cut by two days? How about the administrators? Would we not be better to have year-round with four three-week vacations throughout the year?
I am sorry, but vacation time and tourism do not seem to justify such a weak change. This school group is great for comic relief.
Surely, we have more pressing issues, or maybe they have already solved all the issues and are just cleaning up before summer.
