Our Senate plans to add $4.5 million to buy more SolarBees for our lakes, as reported in the June 21 issue of The Cary News. I wonder if anyone in the Senate or Department of Natural and Environmental Resources know any science. SolarBees may remove algae but will not remove the phosphates and nitrates that are responsible for its formation. Also, they will not remove the toxins that may be present.
The $4.5 million would be better spent on preventing the pollutants from entering the lakes in the first place.
