Orange County deputies investigate shooting

Orange County sheriff’s deputies were investigating a shooting late Wednesday afternoon at the Scottish Inn on U.S. 70 near the Durham County line.

Orange County sheriff’s deputies were investigating a shooting late Wednesday afternoon at the Scottish Inn on U.S. 70 near the Durham County line.

Investigators released few details and would not comment about the incident.

According to radio communications, a woman was found lying on the ground beside a white truck in the motel’s parking lot. She had multiple gunshot wounds, officials said.

The suspect fled before deputies arrived, according to radio communications.

At the scene, deputies took photos of a white Ford F150 pickup truck parked near the back side of the motel. A pair of flip-flop sandals and a white cup also were beside the truck. Multiple shell casings lay on the ground.

Shortly after 6 p.m., radio communications indicated a victim was taken to Duke Hospital. No additional details were immediately available.

A tow truck arrived at 6:30 p.m. to remove the pickup truck, and deputies left the scene shortly after.
