A man jumped 25 feet to his death Thursday afternoon off the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard bridge over Interstate 40, Orange County sheriff’s officials reported.
A passing driver saw the man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of his family, sitting on the side of the bridge around 12:15 p.m. and stopped to check on him, deputies reported.
The man jumped before the driver could approach, according to an Orange County Sheriff’s Office news release. The man landed in the westbound emergency lane on I-40 near the guardrail. He was not hit by passing vehicles, the release stated.
