The State Highway Patrol is asking for the public’s help in solving the deaths of two bicyclists on U.S. 15-501 south of Chapel Hill nearly one year ago.
Ivin Levander Scurlock, 41, of Carrboro, and Alexandria Nicole Simou, 40, of Chapel Hill, were riding south on the highway, just outside the town limits at about 11:38 p.m. Sept. 19, 2013, when they were struck from behind by an unknown vehicle.
The impact threw both bicyclists onto the southbound lanes. The driver left the scene.
Scurlock died at the scene. Simou was taken to UNC Hospitals, where she died.
“At this time, there are no witnesses to this collision,” Lt Jeff Gordon said in a Friday news release. “The suspect vehicle was described as having front end and windshield damage. The make and model of the vehicle is unknown.”
Any information and/or tips from the public should be reported to the Highway Patrol Hillsborough office at 336-732-2551 or the Highway Patrol Communication Center in Raleigh at 919-733-3861.
