A truck driver from Charlotte was cited after he lost control on northbound Interstate 85 and struck a concrete bridge guardrail at the U.S. 70 overpass in eastern Orange County on Friday morning.
Marco Myrick, 38, was cited with “failing to maintain lane control,” according to the State Highway Patrol.
Myrick was driving a tractor-trailer cab at about 8:45 a.m. when a passenger vehicle in front of him began to slow down, according to the Highway Patrol. Myrick’s brakes locked up, he swerved left into the guardrail, rolled over it and down an embankment before hitting several sections of the bridge.
Myrick was pinned inside the cab for a time and later taken to Duke Medical Center with injuries thought to be not life-threatening.
Authorities shut down northbound I-85 and half of the southbound side near the Orange-Durham county line after the crash, backing up traffic in both directions.
