Durham police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that killed a Durham bicyclist Saturday night on North Roxboro Street north of Chateau Road near the Old Farm neighborhood.
It is the third death of a Durham cyclist in the past six weeks.
Officers were sent to the call shortly before 8:30 p.m. They found a man lying in the southbound lanes of North Roxboro Street. A damaged bicycle was located nearby. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police identified the man as Tony Morris Turner, 56, of Durham.

Investigators think the vehicle that struck him was a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The vehicle possibly has damage to the front end.

• On Oct. 27, Kent Winberry, 52, died from injuries he suffered Oct. 18 when struck while riding east on Duke University Road.
A Dodge Ram pickup driven by an 84-year-old man traveling in the opposite direction struck Winberry when the driver tried to turn left in front of the cyclist, police said. No charges have been filed against the driver, but the accident remains under investigation.
• Pamela Lane, 57, of Coggins Mine Court in Durham was killed Oct. 3 in Chapel Hill as she rode on a sidewalk along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Chapel Hill.
Lane was traveling south against the flow of traffic when she was run down by an SUV exiting a convenience store parking lot. The driver wasn’t charged after police determined that she hadn’t broken any laws, according to the Chapel Hill Police Department.
