Residents can drop by Greenbridge on Thursday to imagine two possible futures for downtown’s Rosemary Street corridor.
Rosemary Imagined is a community-based plan to build an area attractive to entrepreneurs and high-tech businesses. The town would use the area’s high-speed Internet infrastructure to attract developers.
The creation of an entrepreneurial enterprise hub along the corridor was identified as one of five “big ideas” in the Chapel Hill 2020, the town’s comprehensive plan for future growth.
Consultants from KlingStubbins in Raleigh created the draft concept plans based on input from community meetings held last summer and fall.
Among the top ideas identified at a February community meeting are public and entertainment spaces, a grocery store and other basic services, bike and pedestrian paths, affordable and multi-family housing and new transportation links to Franklin Street.
Residents also said they want to see less pavement in the district, which is lined now with a number of private and public parking lots.
The first Rosemary Imagined concept plan review meeting will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in the Sky Lounge at Greenbridge, 601 W. Rosemary St. A brief presentation will begin at 12:15 p.m.
An identical meeting will be held at Greenbridge from 6 to 8 p.m., with a brief presentation at 6:45 p.m.
Public comment from the meeting will be used to revise one draft concept plan. A second community review meeting will be held in late May or early June to talk about that plan.
