Police want to talk with a man seen near East Franklin Street after a robbery Thursday morning at the State Employee’s Credit Union on Elliott Road.
Police responded to the robbery call at 8:58 a.m.
Bank employees told police the suspect demanded money but did not display a weapon, according to a news release. He left the bank on foot in the direction of Chapel Hill Fire Station 3 at the corner of North Elliott Road and East Franklin Street, police said. The suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, they said.
The suspect is a man, between age 50 and 60, police said. He was estimated at roughly 5-feet-10 to 6 feet tall and weighed 180 to 200 pounds. The suspect may have changed clothes after the crime and was last seen wearing a dark-colored baseball cap and a white-checked, polo-style shirt.
The suspect is completely bald and may or may not be wearing the hat, police said. He was carrying a silver cane and two canvas grocery bags, and may have boarded a bus traveling toward downtown Chapel Hill, they said.
