Residents can apply now to fill an unexpired term on the Town Council, Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt said this week.
The seat became vacant when Councilman Matt Czajkowski resigned to take a new job in Africa. His term expires in December, so the person who fills his seat also would have to run election this year to continue serving in 2016 and beyond.
There is no official application form. Interested residents should submit a letter or other document that contains their name, home address and signature, plus any information that would support their nomination.
The deadline to apply is April 22, with a council review and candidate interviews planned for an April 27 meeting. The council could make a decision May 4 and swear in the new member on May 11.
Never miss a local story.
Four council seats, including the vacancy, and the mayor’s office will be filled in the Nov. 2 general election.
