Police said an Efland man found in his car Monday in the Timberlyne Shopping Center parking lot likely committed suicide.
William Macintosh III, 55, of 5604 Harmony Church Road, Efland, was found in the Weaver Dairy Road lot shortly after 8 a.m. Monday. He is believed to have died between 2 and 8 a.m. Monday, according to a police report.
A handgun was found with Macintosh in his 2004 Hyundai, the report states.
Macintosh’s body was taken to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh for an autopsy, police spokesman Lt. Josh Mecimore said. The results have not been released, but the Chapel Hill officer who observed the autopsy said “it looks like suicide,” Mecimore said.
There was nothing suspicious about the death that would lead them to believe foul play was involved, he said.
Macintosh appeared to be a longtime resident of Orange and Durham counties, having bought his Efland home in 1991. Mecimore said he may have family in Fayetteville.
