A Hillsborough man was charged with driving while impaired after his car hit a tree Sunday, killing a front-seat passenger.
The driver, David Dees Hill II, 37, of 2511 Wade Hampton Road, Hillsborough, was driving the 1996 Honda west on Dogwood Acres Drive in southern Orange County when the car ran onto the right shoulder and struck a tree around 1:47 a.m. Sunday, State Highway Patrol troopers reported.
Ronald Louis Herbst Jr. 37, of 56 Dogwood Acres Drive, Chapel Hill, was killed in the accident, they said, and Hill was take to UNC Hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. He was charged with DWI while at the hospital, troopers reported.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office could file additional charges in the case, they said.
