Horton High School Alumni Association scholarships

The Horton High School Alumni Association offers scholarships to descendants of Horton High School alumni and attendees who are in high school, college, university or graduate school during the 2014-2015 academic year. 919-444-9090,

Dare to be Different

The local 4-H group Dare to be Different is holding a raffle for a Prada purse worth $2,000. The raffle’s proceeds will be used to provide scholarships for youth to go to camp, to provide lunches for Habitat for Humanity volunteers and for the group to visit Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Science Festival. Home Roam

The Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties Wine Gala will be from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at the Fresh Market, 1200 Raleigh Road, Chapel Hill. The Home Roam tour is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 5, in the Hope Valley neighborhood, starting at Hope Valley Country Club, 3803 Dover Road, Durham. Tickets for each event cost $25 in advance or $30 the day of the event. Proceeds will support the Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties programs for kids.

Tasting Local

The third annual KidSCope gala, Tasting Local, will be from 6-8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at Extraordinary Ventures, 200 S. Elliot Road, Chapel Hill. Tickets cost $39.


The N.C. Queer Youth Power Coalition will host the Queernival day of games, contests, performances and education from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at 304 E. Trinity Ave., Durham. The event will raise money for local gay-straight associations and other youth-led groups.

Las Vegas Night

The Orange County Department on Aging and the Friends of the Central Orange Senior Center will host the annual Las Vegas Night fundraiser at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at the Central Orange Senior Center, 103 Meadowlands Drive, Hillsborough. There will be a barbecue dinner, dancing, door prizes and $10,000 in “chips.” Winnings from games like Black Jack and Roulette can be used in an auction. Empty Bowls

CORA Food Pantry’s Empty Bowls fundraiser will be from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27, in the Chatham Mills Conference Center, 480 Hillsborough St. Tickets cost $30 in advance.

Color the Hill

The second annual Color the Hill 4K and Fun Run will raise money for the Academy of Information Technology of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, A Drink for Tomorrow and the SKJAJA Fund starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at UNC’s cross country course at Finley Fields.

Triangle Walk to Cure Arthritis

The Triangle Walk to Cure Arthritis will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 10, in Imperial Center, 4309 Emperor Blvd., Durham.
