Holy Week from Palm Sunday through Easter Day is under way in Christian churches.
Thursday, a foot washing service is set for 6:30 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel. The Maundy Thursday service at 7:30 p.m. will be held in the Chapel nave and the Rev. Willie Jennings will speak.
On Friday, the Procession of the Stations of the Cross will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by a service at noon.Bahama Baptist Church First Presbyterian Church
Church women’s luncheon
Episcopal Church Women at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 403 E. Main St., will hold the annual Spring Salad Luncheon at the church on Tuesday, April 29.
Proceeds will benefit Urban Ministries, Senior PharmAssist, Thompson's Children's Home, Threshold, Children's Place, Crisis Response Center and other church related organizations.
An $8 donation at the door will be taken for the event from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Master’s Men singers
The Master's Men will perform at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at Berea Baptist Church, 5011 Fayetteville Road.
This is a male group dedicated to singing inspirational music. Selections will include hymns, spirituals, gospel and other musical styles in four, five and six part harmony for unaccompanied male voices.
The group is directed by Robert Cox and assisted by Larry Triplett, one of the group's founding members.
Since August, 1995, The Master's Men have performed at more than 250 religious based gatherings in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Their music is not only uplifting and inspirational, it is fun.
The free concert will be followed by a time of refreshments and fellowship.
Summer day camp
Musikgarten-trained music professional Kaye Saunders and Godly Play-certified educator Ginny Brooks will lead the children in a week filled with storytelling, creative music-making and crafts.
Registration is under way. A half day, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. is $125; full day, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. is $145. There is $20 off for a second and each additional child and scholarships are available.
Camp will be held on the church's shady two-acre playground and will include a T-shirt and daily snack for all campers. Extended daycare is available on request.
