Loren Dick Keys, Jr. died peacefully at home on July 13 from lung cancer, attended by his son Loren (Dick) of Scituate, MA. Also surviving are sister, Carolyn (Keys) Cook of Charleston, W.Va., two sons William J. of Kennett Square, PA and Thomas S. of Carrboro, NC and eight grandchildren, four boys and four girls. Loren was born in 1923 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Loren Dick and Ella Louise (Jones) Keys, graduating from Greenwich High School and Dartmouth College (’44) before joining the U.S. Naval Air Force as a pilot.
Loren married Renetta J. Konopka in 1950, who pre-deceased him in 2005, and graduated from the Thunderbird School of Global Management to begin a distinguished career at Bankers Trust Corporation with major responsibilities in Latin America and the Far East resulting in extensive worldwide travel. He lived successively in Phoenix, AZ; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Westfield, NJ; Greenwich, CT; Quechee,VT and Chapel Hill, NC. He was a dedicated husband and father, an accomplished provider, and a lifelong student of business and world events who was fascinated by nature and wildlife, and challenged his children to be thoughtful, inquisitive and skeptical.
Visitation with Keys family members will be Saturday July 26th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Walker’s Funeral Home of Chapel Hill at 120 W. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill (919-942-3861). Memorial graveside services and burial will be at the family plot on Saturday August 9th at 11:00 am at the First Congregational Church, Old Greenwich, CT (203-637-1791).
