William “Bill” Ballenger, 70, formerly of Chapel Hill, NC, died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at his residence.
He was born on July 14, 1944 in Durham County, NC, the son of the late William and Lillian Brewer Ballenger.
Bill retired from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was an electronics technician. In addition to being an avid Tarheel fan he enjoyed fishing, baseball and gardening. Bill was also a champion horseshoe pitcher.
Surviving is his wife of thirty-four years, Martha “Kitti” Ballenger; three brothers, Anthony Ballenger, Stan Ballenger and wife Brenda, and Jack Ballenger; one sister, Donna Ballenger Pihos-Howell; five nephews, Luke Poole, Wes Poole, Jason Ballenger, Page Ballenger and Jay Ballenger; and one niece, Melissa Pihos.

The family would like to express their acknowledgement of and deep appreciation for the love, devotion and care shown to Bill by his wife Kitti during his courageous fight with cancer.
A graveside service was held 11:00 am Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington.
