Cameron Haney died at UNC Hospitals on June 4th. Son of the late Jack and Cherie (Feil) Haney, he was raised in Ironton, Ohio and graduated from Ohio University. He later earned a Master of Arts in Education from California State University-Sacramento. During his professional career, Cameron taught hearing-impaired children and later worked as a computer analyst for the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C. After retiring to Chapel Hill, he enjoyed volunteering at various places, playing canasta with friends, and was a well-loved regular at Elmo’s Diner in Carrboro. He previously served on the resident council at Covenant Place and was a member of the Chapel Hill Mennonite Fellowship. Many remember him for his kindness, warmth, and heart for those in need.
Cameron is survived by a sister-Susan; two children-Carolyn and Jaron; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many who loved him. A funeral service was held June 21 at the Friends Meeting House in Chapel Hill.
