Sally McCoy Trimble, age 75, died at Chapel Hill Rehab and Healthcare nursing home on June 25th, 2014. She was the adopted and only child of UNC Professor Ralph and Hazel Terry Trimble, both of whom predeceased her. Born in Durham, NC on March 21, 1939, she resided her whole life in Chapel Hill, primarily in the Gimghoul neighborhood. In recent years, she has been a resident of Willow Springs nursing home in Carrboro, NC and Chapel Hill Rehab Nursing Home.
Sally graduated from Chapel Hill HS in 1958 and attended classes at UNC in art, history, and music. She was member of Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church. As an avid music lover, she sang with the Chapel of the Cross Choir and the Chapel Hill Community Chorus. Sally was also an avid fan of the UNC Tar Heels. The joy of her life was attending football games with her father and cousins. She also swam at the Chapel Hill Y and worked briefly at Orange Industries.
Sally is survived by first cousins Louise Terry Slovensky of Staunton, VA, Bertha Jo (Joey) Terry Caruthers of Mooresville, NC, and Donna Terry Bedwell of Monterey, VA, as well as second cousins Kimberly Alexander, Robyn Fant, Miranda Redinger, Erin Brittain, and Terry Watson. A public memorial service will be held graveside in the Old Chapel Hill Cemetery, where her ashes will be sprinkled on her parents’ graves on Sunday, July 6th, 4:00 P.M. The family wishes to thank the members of Chapel of the Cross and Sally’s Chapel Hill neighbors and friends who continued to visit and cheer her during her residency at the nursing homes.
