Kathleen Godwin Smith passed away peacefully at her home on February 14, 2015. She grew up in Lowe’s Grove in southern Durham, NC. She attended Watts Nursing School, worked at the Durham VA and upon retirement, spent many years caring for her friends and family. She was a living lesson of love, patience and compassion.
Surviving are daughter Diane Godwin Atkins (Reginald) of Wimauma, FL, and son M. Travis Smith (Katie) of Hillsborough, NC. Grandchildren are Chip Atkins of Riverview, Florida; Kathy Atkins McLean (Merritt) of St. Petersburg, FL; Colin Smith and Olivia Smith of Hillsborough, NC, and Caroline Smith of Berlin, Germany; and great grandchildren Nevin McLean and Fiona McLean of St. Petersburg, FL, a sister, Hazel A. Godwin of Riverview, FL; a brother, Gus T. Godwin (Marie) of Durham and many much-loved nieces and nephews.
We will remember Kathleen on February 28, 2015, at the Few Chapel at Croasdaile Village, 2600 Croasdaile Farm Parkway, Durham, NC 27705. Family will receive visitors at 10 am, with service at 11 am and reception following. Memorials may be sent the Watts School of Nursing, 2828 Croasdaile Drive, Ste. 200, Durham, NC 27705 or Lowe’s Grove Baptist Church, 4430 South Alston Avenue, Durham, NC 27713.
