Allen Douglas Evans died at Carolina Meadows, Chapel Hill, NC on March 7, 2015 at age 91. Allen was born to the late Loren N. Evans and Hazel Rupert Evans in Terre Haute, Indiana. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Spradley Evans, and his four children, Allene Delories Evans, Mary Margaret Evans Tate, Thomas Downing Evans, Elizabeth Evans Kittrell and their beloved spouses, children, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and two of his brothers, Byron Evans and Rupert Evans, and their families. He was preceded in death by his brother, Philip Evans.??As an engineering freshman, he left Purdue University to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. His decorations included four battle stars, the Bronze Star, the Belgian Croix de Guerre, and the French Legion of Honour. He served in the Fire Direction Center of the 76th Field Artillery Battalion whose campaigns included Normandy, Alsace, Hurtgen Forest and Battle of the Bulge. Following his military service, Allen graduated from Purdue with a double major in chemistry and math. He had a long and successful career at Monsanto where he was known for his ability and his dedication to the people who worked for him.??Allen was a long time Elder, Deacon and Clerk of Session at Cleves Presbyterian Church in Cleves, Ohio and a member of University Presbyterian Church in Chapel Hill, NC. He served 10 years on the Hamilton County School Board and the County Vocational School Board. He was a proud and long-standing member of Kiwanis International in Ohio and Chapel Hill and was especially committed to programs for improving children's health internationally. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Kiwanis or the charity of your choice will be greatly appreciated. The family would like to thank the employees of Carolina Meadows and Wisdom for their expert and compassionate care. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Carolina Meadows followed by a burial service in Boonville, Indiana on Saturday, July 11, 2015.
