Arlene Edwards Spivey, 84 of Chapel Hill, NC, died October 3, 2015. Arlene was born January 3, 1931 in Herington, Kansas to her parents, the late Walter and Viola Edwards. She was predeceased by her brothers, Kenneth and Harold and is survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.After graduating high school, she completed a tour of duty in the US Navy. Upon discharge from the Navy, she relocated to Washington DC and later moved to North Carolina, where she retired from UNC, after working in Winston-Salem, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill for General Administration. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Chapel Hill and was well known for her sewing skills, her love of decorating for all holidays, her beautiful basketry, and her delight in shopping for clothes and jewelry. The Cremation Society of the Carolinas is assisting the family and a private interment will follow in the Edward family plot in Kansas. Per her request, no funeral service will be held. The family would like to thank the staff of Transitions LifeCare of Wake County, UNC Hospice staff, as well as members of the Seniors and Law Enforcement Together and Meals on Wheels programs.
