Martha Wrightson Crawford, aged 91, died peacefully in her sleep on December 29 at the Carol Woods retirement community. A native of Spartanburg, SC, she graduated from Limestone College and, soon after, married James H. Crawford, Jr. Over the next 40 years, she faithfully supported his career as a researcher at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and as a professor of physics at UNC-Chapel Hill. Meanwhile, Martha served as an active volunteer with Reach To Recovery and other organizations. She was a longtime member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the University United Methodist Church. She is survived by her son, James W. Crawford, and daughter-in-law, Sharon A. Reyes, of Portland, OR. A memorial service will be held on January 12 at 3 p.m. in the Carol Woods Assembly Hall, 750 Weaver Dairy Rd., Chapel Hill.
