Ruth C. Mills, a North Carolina native and more recent resident of West Hartford, CT and then Greenville, RI, died at age 75 on Monday, January 18th with family at her side.Born on January 18,1941 in Burlington, NC to Charles R. Coble, Sr. and Mary Ruth Groome Coble, Ruth spent her childhood on Central Ave in Burlington. She was elder sister to Charles R. Coble, William Lee Coble, Martha Coble Lassiter, and John Richard Coble. After graduating from Walter Williams High School, she married and moved to Cambridge, MA. Ruth received a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Boston University in 1963. She then returned to NC and raised her family in Chapel Hill.Ruth worked for many years as a preschool assistant teacher at St. Thomas More School, where she was well-loved for her kindness and patience. She is also fondly remembered as piano teacher to many of Chapel Hill’s elementary school students of the 1970’s and 1980’s. Ruth was a talented painter in both oil and watercolor. She also loved music of all kinds and enjoyed watching shows about gourmet cooking. More than anything, though, she loved her family; each time she saw one of her children or grandchildren, her smile would light up the room. Her unwavering love and encouragement will be greatly missed.Ruth is survived by her son William Leath Mills and his wife Kathy Goins of Lusaka, Zambia, son Mark A. Mills of Poolesville, MD, and daughter Mary Alice Mills and her husband Paul Myoda of Chepachet, RI. She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren Ava (13), Marlowe (7), and Emmy (4). Ruth is survived by her brother Charles R. Coble and wife Betty of Burlington, NC, brother William Lee Coble and wife Annelle of Burlington, NC, sister Martha Coble Lassiter and husband Randy of Salisbury, NC, as well as 3 nieces, 4 nephews, and their children. She was preceded in death by her father (1994), mother (2010), and brother John Richard (2002).The family expresses deep appreciation to the attentive staff at the Greenville Center for the outstanding care, compassion, and love they showed Ruth and her family during her time there.A private service will be held at a later date.
