Carrboro volleyball continued its streak of 3-0 wins with last weekend’s 25-11, 25-18, 25-15 victory over visiting South Columbus in the NCHSAA 2A tournament.
Seeded No. 2 in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s 2A East Region, Carrboro (27-1) was scheduled to host No. 4-seeded South Granville (27-3) Tuesday night. (That match was played too late for today’s Chapel Hill News. See newsobserver.com for results.)
South Granville upset the region’s No. 1 team, Croatan, by a 3-2 score Saturday (18-25, 25-14, 25-21, 24-26, 15-10).
The winner of Tuesday’s South Granville-Carrboro match advances to play in the NCHSAA 2A championship game at 5 p.m. Saturday in Reynolds Coliseum, where they will meet either Claremont Bunker Hill or Hendersonville.
In the NCHSAA 3A, No. 2 seeded Cardinal Gibbons defeated No. 11 Cedar Ridge 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-10) to reach the East Region final.
It was the (25-0) Crusaders’ third win this year against their Big Eight rivals. Cedar Ridge finished 20-7, while Gibbons advanced to face eastern No. 1 Lee (26-1) in the NCHSAA state semifinals.
In the NCHSAA 4A, No. 2 seeded J.H. Rose looked good in its final match in Greenville this year, sweeping No. 6 East Chapel Hill 25-8, 25-20, 25-21 on Saturday in NCHSAA 4A volleyball.
The Wildcats, who had won 11 straight matches and the PAC-6 championship before Saturday’s state quarterfinal, finished their year at 15-9.
“I am very proud of my team and how strong we finished,” East coach Michelle Wood said. “The girls truly enjoyed being together as a team and worked hard for each other on and off the court.”
Greenville Rose (24-1) advanced to meet No. 1 Raleigh Broughton (20-0) this week in the NCHSAA 4A East Region final in Raleigh.
