Running on a misty Sunday morning, Sean Bezdek of Chapel Hill won last weekend’s Carrboro 10K with a time of 34:22.78, almost a full minute in front of runner-up Dwayne Dixon of Raleigh (35:20). Timothy McLeod of Durham (35:23) was third.
Meredith Bazemore, 41, of Chapel Hill, repeated as the women’s champion in the 10K, the second event in the Cardinal Track Club’s 12th annual Le Tour de Carrboro. Her time of 41:53.78 was slightly slower than her 41:07.50 in winning last year’s 10K, which likewise was run in rainy conditions. Chapel Hill 21-year-olds Alexa Phillips (42:43) and Kimberly Halberg (45:43) were the second and third females to finish.
Ilona Jaspers of Carrboro won the Masters Female division with a 46:15.78, about 90 seconds faster than her time last year (47:46.12) as runner-up in the 2015 Carrboro 10K.
Barton Bechard of Durham (36:13.79) won the Masters Male division, finishing sixth overall.
William Schmitz of Chapel Hill, 44, won the Clydesdale class with his time of 54:53.29, and Kate Tackett, age 23, of Snow Camp, was first in the Athena class with a 54:49.53.
The race had 405 runners, up from last year’s 365.
