Nuggets win CHP&R basketball’s 13-15 tournament
The Chapel Hill Nuggets finished the rec basketball winter season on a strong note, winning their last two regular season games. They then defeated the top-seeded Heat 36-23 and the Nets 41-25 to win the Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation 13-15 League tournament championship.
Carrboro looking for sports, fishing rodeo volunteers
The Carrboro Recreation & Parks Department is currently accepting coaching applications for both its Youth Flag Football and Youth Baseball fall programs.
Coaches must organize team practices as well as teach proper playing skills and fundamentals. They also must teach proper sportsmanship and provide a safe and enjoyable playing atmosphere at practices, and should be able to communicate effectively with players, parents and Recreation Department staff.

Carrboro also is seeking volunteers to help run the Orange County Fishing Rodeo, scheduled for Saturday, June 6 in Hillsborough at Strayhorn’s Pond. Volunteers will be needed from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Roles include setup, registration, fishing, participants’ lunches, and clean up. Dixie Rock has competitors clmbing walls
Organizers of last weekend’s Dixie Rock 26 climbing competition were pleased to see several full teams register for the event. They included a team from N.C. State, as well as the Space Kittens, Team Wrinkly, The Outsiders and The Slow Lorises.

Piedmont Bass Classic gets busy on local lakes
Jasper and Vinston Nettles of Pittsboro caught and released three bass totaling 12.45 pounds Saturday at Shearon Harris Lake to get ninth place in the Piedmont Bass Classic’s third tournament of the season.
Kevin Beverly and Tyler Faggart of Raleigh netted the limit of five bass to win the event with 27.46 pounds.
Next up for the PBC anglers is the Cashion Fishing Rods bass team tournament on April 4 at Shearon Harris.
That will be followed the next weekend by a rare doubleheader: the PBC’s $10,000 Spring Team Bass Trail’s fourth qualifying tournament on April 11 at Falls Lake and the makeup of a postponed PBC qualifier on April 12 at Jordan Lake.
