Man, woman charged with delivering drug used to make meth

Wake County sheriff's deputies Wednesday filed multiple charges related to methamphetamine and other drugs against a woman who was convicted in February of drug felonies in Johnston County and a man who was release from prison in April after being convicted in Johnston of meth-related charges.

Memorial Day observances

A Memorial Day observance is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, at the Johnston County Courthouse on Market Street in downtown Smithfield. Sherill Stevens of Selma, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, will speak.

A rummage sale is scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 11, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 4057 U.S. 70 Business West between Smithfield and Clayton. The sale will feature a variety of items. Fill a bag with clothes for $4.

Winfrey wins at state, regional meets

Clayton’s Jayla Winfrey won the all-around competition at the N.C. state meet in Concord earlier this spring and took the all-around title at the Region 8 Xcel Championships this month. She also won the balance beam, the floor exercise, vault and was third on the uneven bars at the state meet. She is a level gold Xcel gymnast. At regionals, she tied for first in the vault, won the bars and was third in the beam and floor.
