Memorial Day observance Monday

A Memorial Day observance is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, May 30, at the Johnston County Courthouse on Market Street in downtown Smithfield. Sherill Stevens of Selma, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, will speak.

Faith Notes: May 25

Plates of barbecued pork will be on sale from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at Lanwood Chapel Church, 3056 Buffalo Road, Smithfield. The cost is $8 per plate and includes barbecue, boiled potatoes, slaw, hush puppies and desert. For local delivery of five or more plates, call 910-985-2154.
