Following a four-month investigation, Clayton police have made an arrest in the armed robbery of the Burger King at 101 S. Boling St.
On July 15, two men entered the fast-food eatery just before 10 p.m. and robbed the restaurant at gunpoint. Witnesses said the robbers walked in armed with handguns, demanded money and ordered everyone to get on the floor. The robbers stole an undisclosed amount of money before running away on foot. No one was injured.
After conducting interviews and following up on leads, police issued a warrant for Zakee Rakeem Johnson, 22, of 1312 Ujama Drive in Raleigh. On Nov. 1, the Raleigh Police Department arrested Johnson and took him to the Wake County Detention Center.
Johnson faces three felony charges: robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and second-degree kidnapping. The kidnapping charge stems from the way the robbers ordered people inside the restaurant to move against their will at gunpoint.
