Clayton doesn’t have a movie theater, but for the next three months, Town Square will give it a try. The town is bringing back its outdoor movie series and expanding the run this year to three months.
“In the past, the (Downtown Development Association) has done two movie nights, both sponsored by Zaxby’s,” Downtown Development coordinator Kaitlin Russo said. “This year, we’re doing it a little bit differently; we’re going to have three movie nights with three different sponsors.”
The movie nights will be on the fourth Friday of the next three months, starting this Friday night, Aug. 26, with “High School Musical 2.” The evening, with a back-to-school theme, will include a school-supply drive for Cooper Elementary School. Johnston County students return to classes Aug. 29.
Visitors often bring chairs and blankets as the movie is projected on a large inflatable screen.
Never miss a local story.
The next two movie nights will be Sept. 23 with the animated “Bolt” and Oct. 28 with the spooky Disney classic “Halloweentown.” Though they mighy not be able to follow the plot, Russo said, viewers can bring their dogs to the September movie.
All movies are free and will include face painting, games and food vendors while crowds wait for it to get dark. For the August movie, the square opens up at 7 p.m., with the movie starting at 8 p.m.
