She won’t go to Clayton’s standalone library
I was concerned when I read Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library was pulling out of the Johnston County library system for what seemed like ridiculous reasons.
I was then outraged when I read the Town of Clayton wants to make the library exclusive to in-town residents and charge all of us “out of towners” for using the facilities.
I live less than two miles from the library, but I will not pay to use this facility. My Saturday ritual includes a trip to the library, shopping in town, maybe a cup of coffee or bite to eat at the bakery or pizza parlor, then picking up items at the farmers’ market. That’s over now because I have no reason to go downtown. I hope the merchants are prepared for the loss, as I believe others also use a trip to the library as a reason to park and shop the town.
Never miss a local story.
For $25 I can join the Wake County library system, which offers much more for the money. I think the Clayton leaders and Town Manager Steve Biggs have made a big mistake with this decision. I sure hope town residents can support their big growth plans.
