Johnston County Hall of Fame Ceremony
The induction ceremony for the 2016 Johnston County Athletic Hall of Fame will be held on Saturday, March 19, at West Johnston High School. The class of 2016 is Al Byrd Jr., Jim Laughter, Susan Wall, Twana Jeter Johnson and Deacon Jones. Tickets to the banquet are $10 each and available at any Johnston County High School.
Johnston County Senior Games
The Johnston County Senior Games will be held April 11-22. The Senior Games are a health, fitness and arts program for adults ages 50 and older. Registration forms are available at Parks and Recreation Department offices throughout Johnston County. Registration closes on March 4. Athletic events include cycling, pickleball, corn-hole, track & field, walking, bowling, bocce and golf. The Silver Arts competitions include visual arts (acrylics, drawing, photography, etc.), heritage arts (quilting, knitting, needlework, etc.), Literary (essays, poems, short stories, life experiences) and performing (comedy/drama, vocal, dance, instrumental). Clayton Civitan Spring baseball

2016 Clayton 5K Road Race
The 2016 Clayton 5K Road Race will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, in downtown Clayton. Awards will go to the first three finishers in six age groups. Ribbons will be awarded to all participants in the 0.1-mile Tot Trot. Register at the Clayton Community Center or online at townofclayton.org. The entry fee is $25 before April 22, $35 from April 23 until May 11 and $40 the day of the race. The Tot Trot fee (ages 6 and under) is $5. For more info, call 919-553-1550.
GCAA Spring Baseball
Registration for the 2016 spring baseball season with the Greater Cleveland Athletic Association is open online until Feb. 26. Walk-in registration will be held in the Cleveland area on Feb. 27. Opening day for the season is April 2. Visit gcaabaseball.com to register or for more information.
Lifeguard training classes in Smithfield
The Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department will be offering American Red Cross Lifeguard Training this spring. Participants must be at least 15 years old, pass a pre-course swim test, attend 100 percent of the classes in your session, and not mix sessions. The fee is $200-225. (A non-refundable deposit of $25 is due with each application.) Contact the SRAC for swim test requirements.

First Session — Sunday, Feb. 21, 2-4 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 26, 3-8pm; Saturday, Feb. 27, 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 28, 1-7 p.m.
Second Session — Sunday, March 13, 2-4 p.m.; Friday, March 18, 3-8 p.m.; Saturday, March 19, 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.; and Sunday, March 20, 1-7 p.m.
Third Session — Sunday, April 17, 2-4 p.m.; Friday, April 23, 3-8 p.m.; Saturday, April 24, 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.; and Sunday, April 25, 1-7 p.m.

Piedmont Bass Classics tournaments
The Piedmont Bass Classics tournament trail fishing events have been set for the 2016 season and run from March through June. Events are held at Shearon Harris, Jordan, Kerr, Falls and Mayo lakes. The PBC Spring Opens and Invitational tournaments start Feb. 27 at Shearon Harris and run through June. New this year are events for boats with 150 horsepower or less and aluminum boats with 115 horsepower or less. Boy Scout Fly-Fishing Clinic
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will offer a two-day fly fishing merit badge clinic Feb. 27-28 at the John E. Pechmann Fishing Education Center in Fayetteville. Overnight camping is available, beginning Feb. 26. The clinic is opened to active Boy Scouts ages 11 and older. The fee is $5 per scout, payable on the day of the event. Register at ncwildlife.org.
